6 Things you must know from Black Swan

BLACK SWAN

Directed by: Darren Aronofsky

Starring: Natalie Portman

  1. Passion and devotion

If there is anything that makes Nina fit for the role of the black swan, it was her passion for the dance, her love for ballet and the time and devotion she put to it; not also overlooking how talented she was at it

  1. Obsession is dangerous

Nina wanted nothing more than the role of the black swan that she became obsessed with it... she had serious hallucination, seeing herself fighting lily and killing her, only to discover she never fought Lily but was busy fighting herself and even ended up stabbing herself with a broken mirror which she thought she used on Lily in the hallucination

Black Swan Reviews - Metacritic

  1. We are our own worst enemy

Nina had hallucinated seeing herself reflection on the mirror acting differently from her real self. This only meant that Nina was actually her own enemy and nightmare, she obviously needed to free herself from herself

  1. Hallucinations reflect crazy

Although Nina experienced most of her hallucinations privately, she would have appeared crazy in public if anyone was watching. In the dressing room hallucination where she battled Lily to death was actually her fighting and harming herself ; although appearing as a mystery.

Nina had always pictured Lily as an enemy against her achievement; a mental picture she created by herself but in the real sense she was the enemy to herself; the hallucinations had taken over her mind compeletely.

After Killing Lily (as she thought), she had freed herself from herself and performed flawlessly as the black swan, even picturing herself transforming into the black swan; she earned a standing ovation

Black Swan, rivalry, and the horror of aging

  1. People who experience hallucinations are vulnerable to harm

Nina felt she had cleared the obstacle (Lily), which she imagined, she became more confused when Lily came knocking her dressing room door and congratulating her on her performance... At this point she discovered that she had been fighting herself all the while and had harmed herself with a broken glass which she pulled out it’s piece from her stomach.

The interesting point here is, Nina’s obsession for the black swan role had taken the best of her; the black swan in her killed the white swan in her... after discovering this in tears, her emotional mood complimented her final performance as the white swan that commits suicide

  1. Obsessive people are dangerous

When home with her mum, she acted mentally unstable by slamming the door on the hand of her mother twice in a bid to protest her privacy
